An Evening in Notting Hill
Notting Hill was much… dirtier than I anticipated. As we arrived at our bus stop, I mumbled to Caleb, “This cannot be it. We have to be in the wrong place.” Later in the week, we actually overheard another American couple chatting over dinner about the same thing.
Needless to say, Notting Hill did have its own charm and I’m sure we would have stumbled upon more of its charm if we had more than one evening to explore. One thing I did admire about Notting Hill were the colorful mews and lovely terrace gardens. The curb appeal of these homes was certainly pleasing to the eyes. While I can’t say we would go out of our way to visit Notting Hill again, we would probably give it another go if we just happened to be in the area on a future trip.
After strolling the streets of Notting Hill, we headed off to dinner. We arrived promptly at 6pm at Bourne & Hollingsworth. I had eagerly anticipated visiting this restaurant for months and it was even better than I had imagined. The walls of the restaurant were laced with plants of every kind and the entire restaurant felt like a home fit for the English countryside. It is not often that these trendy restaurants deliver both a stunning atmosphere and delicious food, but the food at Bourne & Hollingsworth was truly delicious.
Our favorite part of the dining experience? Dessert, of course! Caleb and I split the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. We still think about this dessert often, and even purchased this sticky toffee pudding white hot chocolate from Whittard later in the week as a small reminder of our favorite London dessert.
Clearly, I fit right in with the atmosphere of this restaurant. I am still convinced that the pattern of my jumpsuit was made of the same fabric as the dining chairs behind me. If not the same, it was pretty close.
After dinner, we snapped a few photos of the town at night and caught a bus back to The Byron Hotel. Day one felt both very long and far too short all at the same time. Though exhausted, Caleb and I were both over the moon to actually be in Europe.
