3 Ways You Can Participate in Pro-Life Work

3 Ways You Can Participate in Pro-Life Work

In this week’s episode of The About Her Podcast, I chatted with Chelsea Sobolik, Director of Public Policy at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. We discussed details and practical implications of the recent Supreme Court Case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case that Chelsea referred to as a, “Once in a generational opportunity for the court to overturn the disastrous precedents that were set in both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.”

While we will not know the outcome of this case until later this Summer, it is essential, now more than ever, that Christians take intentional steps toward supporting women through unplanned pregnancy. As Christians, we firmly assert, along with the Scriptures, that life begins at the moment of conception, and, in this same moment, each and every human being is granted innate dignity and worth, having been created in the very image of God. It is because we believe every human life is stamped with the divine image that we seek to support both the unborn and mothers walking through unplanned pregnancy.

As Chelsea also shared in this week’s interview, it is Christians, of all people, who should be most compassionate in these matters because, “If we really do believe the good news of the gospel, that every single sin can be forgiven, then we should be the ones offering hope to women in unplanned pregnancies. Not issuing judgment to these women.”

If it true (and I certainly hope it is) that the Summer of 2022 will bring the overturning of the disastrous precedents of both Roe and Casey, it is also true that we must not delay in getting involved in Pro-life work. The woman who feels that abortion is her only option is in need of our message of hope all the more. May we communicate this message loudly, and compassionately in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead.

How You Can Get Involved

Pray

Pray for the ongoing protection of the unborn.

Pray for the ongoing protection of women walking through unplanned pregnancy (because abortion is not health care, my friends). Pray also that the needs of these women would be met through the ministry of the local church and crisis pregnancy centers, and that these women would discover comfort and hope as they press on through often difficult circumstances.

Pray for the men and women serving across the globe in pregnancy resource centers. Pray that the Lord would uplift and sustain them even on seemingly dark and discouraging days.

Pray for the individual members of the Supreme Court. Ask the Lord to incline their hearts toward what is true.

Finally, praise the Lord for advances continually made toward an abortion-less future.

Donate your Time, Talents, & Resources

You will never regret giving of your time and talents to pro-life ministries like local crisis pregnancy centers, national and state pro-life activist groups, or other pro-life organizations. Consider contacting a local crisis pregnancy center or state activist group today to discuss weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or yearly volunteer opportunities. Listed below are a few creative ways you might offer to help.

  • Volunteer as a counselor or advocate at a pregnancy resource center (Training is provided)

  • Rally together a group of friends and volunteer to clean a local pregnancy resource center

  • Establish a prayer/support network and contact a local pregnancy center to see what specific needs you might pray for

  • Donate gently used baby items or maternity clothes to a local pregnancy resource center

  • Partner with a local pregnancy resource center to organize a baby shower for women in the community (a great idea for a women’s ministry or small group)

  • Utilize your administrative skills to assist a pro-life activist group with data entry or communications

Commit to Ongoing Education

If Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health organization is to teach us anything, it is that abortion related legislation is always changing. Rightly so, as it ought not be settled until abortions cease. Until the day abortion is considered unthinkable, commit to ongoing education on the topic of abortion. First and foremost, commit to a study of God’s heart for the unborn in the Scriptures. Secondly, consider researching abortion trends in the US/World, public opinions on abortion or adoption/foster care, and local/state/national abortion legislation/laws. The more you are familiar with the social, ethical, and political landscape in your area, the more readily you will know how to best advocate on behalf of the unborn and mothers in need in your area.
