Classic French Madeleines
French Madelines have quickly become a go-do dessert in the O’Neel household. These little cake treats are absolutely delicious and really very easy to make. Many people are intimidated by Madelines because it can be challenging to achieve the classic “Madeline hump shape.” Once you give them a go, though, you realize it’s not difficult to properly bake a Madeline at all.
Of all the recipes that I have served when hosting guests in our home, Madelines are my favorite because they are served warm and are the perfect addition to a warm cup of tea or coffee. They are quick to bake and the batter can even be prepared a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator. Madelines really are the perfect dessert to accompany great conversation, sweetening up any meal of the day (yes, even breakfast!)
The recipe below is my own that I have created after trying many others. Feel free to experiment with this basic recipe to make them your own, such as dipping a classic vanilla Madeline in Chocolate or by quickly soaking them in a lemon glaze!
If you don’t have a Madeline pan, here is one of my favorites!
